White Horse (Work in Progress)

I started work on my very first commissioned painting today! I'm pretty happy with the results so far but am open to any critiques or advice you may have.

UPDATE: Spent some time over the last 2 days working on this and I think it's done!

Wow, it's great! Do you use some kind of photoreference for this? Did you do a sketch or did you start with acrylics right away? Anyway, it's impressive! It seems to "glow" on the black background! <3

Thanks for the kind comments.

E*phi, I did use a photo I found on Google images for my initial reference. After painting the canvas black I blocked in the form directly with white acrylic and then used only black and white to begin solidifying the forms. Part of the glow effect may be because of the adjustments I was making along the left side (the nose and forehead)...not sure how that will turn out in the end. Check back in a week or so for the finished product!

Congratulations on your first commission! I think your painting looks great so far and if you keep it up, I'm sure you'll get more commissions soon :)

It already has depth and strength and interest. You are off to a great start! I am impressed, really, as all the subtle changes is white are a challenge. Love the work I see here.

Congrats on your commission. It looks great. :-) If I could make one tiny suggestion it would be to put a light in the eye. Horse eyes are quite deep and luminous in the light and although your horse's eyes are wonderfully deep, a small reflection might add just the right finishing touch.

This is going to look amazing when it's framed.

Sara, since I forgot to sign it I have to get the paints out one more time, so I'll take your advice about the highlight in the eye. Thanks!
